Situated at an altitude of 3,293 meters, the Yamunotri Temple was built by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal. It is surrounded by majestic peaks and valleys, creating a serene spiritual ambiance.

Yamunotri is also known for Surya Kund, a hot water spring where devotees cook rice and potatoes as an offering, and Divya Shila, a sacred rock pillar worshipped before entering the temple.

Yamunotri Dham is one of the four sacred pilgrimage sites of the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. It marks the origin of the Yamuna River, considered the sister of Yama, the God of Death.
