Located at an altitude of 3,100 meters, the Gangotri Temple was built by Amar Singh Thapa and later renovated by the Maharaja of Jaipur. Surrounded by glaciers and snow-clad peaks, it is a place of immense spiritual significance.

The Bhagirath Shila, a sacred stone near the temple, marks the spot where King Bhagirath meditated. Close to Gangotri, the Gaumukh Glacier, the source of the Ganges, attracts both devotees and trekkers.

According to mythology, King Bhagirath’s penance brought Goddess Ganga to Earth, and Lord Shiva contained her mighty flow in his locks. The Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, stands in the Garhwal Himalayas as a revered pilgrimage destination.
